A 22-year-old Washington D.C. man was found dead after he was last seen leaving for a date with a girl he met on Plenty of Fish. Skeletal remains found in a wooded area by the Suitland Parkway in October have just been confirmed to be those of Marty McMillan Jr. went missing in April and his family never saw or heard from him again after leaving for his date set up through the dating site. McMillan's grandmother, Forlesia Cook, told NBC Washington her grandson was just trying to go a date when he disappeared.
"He was a human being. He didn't deserve to be laying out there all that time like that, just thrown away like a piece of trash," Cook said.
McMillan's family set up a campaign to find him and would search for the 22-year-old every weekend. Cook found his car in May about three miles from the spot he was last seen. Police said he was shot multiple times inside an apartment before his body was dumped.
Cook told NBC Washington she believes the police should have done more to find McMillan.
"They wouldn't elevate his case to homicide. It was 'critical missing,' and it stayed that way until now, even though he was dead from the first day," Cook said as she cried. Investigators said the last phone call McMillan made was to the woman he was supposed to be meeting up with. However, she told police she didn't have her phone when he was communicating with her and she never saw him. Following McMillan's disappearance, police told The Washington Post his bank cards had been used. No arrests have yet been made in McMillan's case. Anyone with information about his disappearance or death are being asked to contact police. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered.
